MCB signs CSR covenant for the metal sector

MCB was the first of many metal wholesalers to sign the international CSR covenant for the metal sector. By participating in the covenant, MCB wants to further professionalise the their sustainability actions for the purpose of reducing environmental impact. This event contributes to the realization of a more sustainable and supply chain.

Corporate social responsibility has become increasingly prominent on the agenda at MCB in recent years. Serge Timmermans, CCO of MCB: “Sustainability in particular is getting more and more of our attention. We are working hard to halve our own CO2-emissions, but we also engage in dialogues with customers and suppliers to share knowledge and information. We are moreover investigating the possibilities for greener alternatives in production, packaging and transportation. We are aware of its necessity. At the same time, we also realize that we have to tackle this together with the entire supply chain. That is why we are more than happy to join the covenant.”

Together more sustainable
The metal sector, civil society organizations and the government join forces in the ICSR covenant. No single company can solve the complex issues in the international metal chain on its own. This can only be achieved through cooperation and joining forces. The covenant helps to jointly identify the risks and to prevent and tackle negative impacts on people, nature and the environment in the metal chain. MCB is happy to take its responsibility in this regard.

MCB is already undertaking several activities to reduce its direct negative impact on the environment. For example, more than 2,000 solar panels have been installed on rooftops and more and more materials are being reused and recycled. Serge: “But by purchasing differently, we can achieve much more profit in terms of environmental impact in the chain. The ICSR experts involved in the agreement will help us getting an even better picture of the risks at our suppliers, so that we can improve in that area. Moreover, by working together with partners in the industry, we can have a much bigger impact. In the end, that’s what it is all about.”
